I HAVE just read the article on car sharing lanes on the motorways.

This works wonderfully here in the USA with express lanes going one way in the morning and the opposite way in the evening to speed people to and from work.

The car sharing lane is excellent, esepecially if you are touring the country and go through some of the more congested cities on your journey.

The problem with the UK copying it is that the USA usually has at least four, sometimes six or even eight lanes in each direction.

Without the extra lanes it would only increase frustration as the single driver would be cooped up into just two lanes, leading to more delays, especially with roadworks being the norm these days.
