BOLTON Golf Club's two Open hopefuls failed to qualify at the final hurdle at the weekend.
Steve Parry returned two solid rounds of 73 and 74 for a total of 147 at Turnberry, but it was nowhere near enough the 137 shot by the four qualifiers.
Clubmate Simon Walsh had a tougher time at Western Gailes when he was disqualified for failing to tell his playing partners he was playing a provisional ball.
The 18-year-old England Schools captain was out of contention after the first round when he finished six over. At the fifth hole in his second round he played a provisional, but then found his original ball, which he played. He carried on with the rest of the round unaware anything was amiss until one of his playing partners reported his misdemeanour.
Walsh will lead England Schools against Wales, at Royal St David's, on August 31, and hopes to make a better impression in the English Amateur Championships later this month.
