ONE of Cumbria's most famous outdoors writers has died at the age of 93.
Harry Griffin, who was born in Barrow, wrote a countryside column for The Guardian newspaper every fortnight for 53 years, with his last one appearing on Monday.
A Harry Griffin, as he was known to Guardian readers, held the world record for the longest continuously published newspaper column.
The column was based on a life devoted to the outdoors with his last piece about his favourite hill, Black Combe, near Millom, which he first climbed in 1924.
