ST BERNARD'S RC Primary School has been named as one of the region's top fund-raising schools for its part in a world record breaking poetry event.
Pupils at the Ladybridge school in Bolton raised £170 as part of the Words Worth Reading event organised by Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Wordsworth Trust.
More than 250,000 school children took part on March 19, by simultaneously reciting Wordsworth's "Daffodils" poem to smash the record for the largest mass reading aloud. The school will receive £100 worth of book tokens, donated by sponsors Yellow Pages. Headteacher Jen Brook said: "The children enjoyed learning the poem and felt very excited to be part of such a big event. The book tokens will be really useful - it is a lovely reward for the school's effort."
Stephen Tongue, local Marie Curie Cancer Care Community Fundraiser, said: "Thank you to everyone involved for making the day such a success. The funds raised will help support the Marie Curie Nurses working in our community to give more people the choice to die at home."
