THE top seeds in the BSF Tennis League Championships were never really extended in the singles events on Tuesday night.

In the men's singles, Bolton Arena based number one seed John Lister was much too strong and experienced for Markland Hill's Anthony Nolan, while his colleague Simon Pearson also won by the same 6-0, 6-0 score against Lostock's Arif Pirbhai.

The last quarter final place went to Holcombe Brook's Rob Worth, who was also most convincing in his 6-0, 6-2 win against Hawkshaw's Stanley Waddell.

Sixteen times winner and current ladies champion Lisa Cartwright was much too good against her Hawkshaw club-mate Vicky Boon in a 6-1, 6-0 win, while number four seed Hannah Wilson from Leigh CC proved to too strong for the Tyldesley based Anita Warhurst in a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Some of the best tennis was seen in the level men's doubles event when brothers Gareth and Jonathan Davies were given plenty to think about before beating Walkers pairing of Lee Sharples and Bernard Millington.
