I WAS absolutely disgusted when I read in the Bolton Evening News that the council were going to fine people £50 who were found feeding the pigeons.
What a deplorable thing to do, and the councillors who agree with this are pathetic to want to starve these lovely birds, who are a pleasure for people to watch and feed them.
They do not pester people sitting in the Town Hall Square, nor do they dive-bomb people, as Karon Francis states in her letter of complaint.
Bolton's town centre would not be attractive without the pigeons.
The pigeons do not attract rats as they eat everything that is given to them during the daytime, then the rats come out at night. Therefore, if you got rid of the birds, the town would be overcome with rats at night. How would you get rid of those creatures?
Is Bolton Council going to put look-outs on every corner of the town centre, looking for people feeding the pigeons? They should be looking out for thugs and people pinching things etc. What on earth is the world coming to when people cannot even feed birds without the "Gestapo" tackling them?
I consider that many people from Bolton have told the council that we do not want to part with the pigeons, they are a part of Bolton, and we want them to stay.
