A Horwich charity is putting the final touches to its fifth annual summer fair, being held on Saturday.

Horwich Visiting Service is a befriending scheme that involves volunteers visiting elderly, disabled and lonely residents within Horwich and Blackrod on a regular basis.

The fair, now in its fifth year, takes place at Horwich Clinic, Jones Street, between noon and 4pm.

There will be a variety of stalls, games and competitions as well as information about the charity itself and the opportunity to sign up as a volunteer.

The group currently has 36 volunteers, between the ages of 24-88, and is keen to recruit more.

Co-ordinator Polly Chadwick said: "The more volunteers we have, the more vulnerable people we will be able to befriend.

"All we ask is that volunteers are aged over 18 and that they can spare an hour each week to spend visiting someone to provide chat and company."

Last year's summer fair raised £350 for the charity and organisers hope to at least match that this year.

The money will be used for additional events such as Christmas parties for the elderly.
