STAFF were sky high at the offices of Bolton-based commercial insurance broker Opus when North-west Air Ambulance arrived to receive a £2,000 donation.

Following a year of fundraising by Opus staff, Bolton manager Paul Twitchett and employee benefits coordinator Jane Kelly handed over the donation to the air ambulance.

Opus employees at their office in Salop Street raised the money through various activities including weekly raffles, home-made cake stalls and dress-down days.

The decision to support the charity was made following the experience of Opus employee Tony Locke, whose daughter Chloe's life was saved by the speedy response of an air ambulance after a horse riding accident in 2002.

Mr Locke said: "It was the intervention of the air ambulance that saved our daughter's life. I hope the money will help keep air ambulances running and save many other lives."

The cost of providing the North-west with full air ambulance service is £900,000 each year, which must be raised entirely by charity as no government funding is made available.
