A DEMONSTRATION of the New Zealand haka was given to the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Prentice Howarth, by teenagers from South Auckland.
The war dance, along with a host of traditional songs, was performed at the Town Hall by 50 children on an exchange trip with Smithills High School.
The New Zealanders, boys and girls aged between 13 and 18, are staying with families in Bolton and delivered another triumphant performance with traditional spears at Smithills School on Saturday. They also visited the The Willows, home of Super League rugby team Salford Reds, on Sunday to show off their own skills on the pitch before the match.
Smithills School Senior Brass Band established links with the James Cook High School when they went Down Under last year.
Cllr Prentice said: "Watching the haka sent shivers down my spine."
