"WE are watching you." That is the message to known burglars in Little Hulton and Walkden.
Offenders are being sent letters from the police warning them that they are being closely monitored and patrols have been stepped up in the area.
The tough new stance is part of Operation Tahiti, a new initiative to crackdown on burglary in Salford and reassure residents.
The letter also informs the offenders they can expect to be visited on a frequent basis to check their activities.
The initiative is part of the Greater Manchester Police campaign, Operation Magpie, which aims to reduce domestic burglaries.
Sergeant Steve Gerrard, of Little Hulton police, said: "This operation is designed to transfer the fear of Crime from the victim to the criminal.
"Burglary is a serious offence that brings pain and misery to victims and so we want to reassure local people and remind those responsible that we will not tolerate such activity and will be directing police resources to help tackle this crime."
Police are also looking for help from members of the public who may have information about burglars or those people who are prepared to accept stolen property.
Anyone with such information is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
