WIGAN Warriors have confirmed that prop Danny Sculthorpe has signed a new three year deal which will keep him at the JJB Stadium until the end of 2007.
Sculthorpe who is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury has been in tremendous form and has become one of the top young forwards in the game.
Chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "We are delighted that Danny has pledged his future to the club. Since joining us from Rochdale he has developed into a top class player and a future international. The news comes on the back of some of our other young talent in Gareth Hock and Sean O'Loughlin signing contract extensions. We are very keen to hold on to players like Danny. It is important the squad has a blend of quality young players together with more experienced players."
Coach Denis Betts said: "Danny has developed into a top quality player and are very pleased he has committed his future to us."
Sculthorpe added: "I am pleased to have put pen to paper with Wigan until 2007. The club has shown great faith in me. I am looking forward to returning to the side and am determined to be back fitter and stronger, hopefully before the end of the season.
Tommy Sale, Leigh Centurions club president, has been accepted for induction into the Rugby League 'Roll of Honour'.
Tommy, aged 85, will be officially inducted during this weekend's Arriva Trains Cup final when his beloved Leigh Centurions take on Hull KR at Rochdale.
The award scheme was established last year by the RFL for people who have contributed great service to a club and rugby league in general. He has been associated with the club for 75 years, firstly a scoreboard runner, then player, director, and currently timekeeper. Tommy did have a stint away from Leigh at Widnes where he was the first Widnes captain to lead them out at Wembley for the 1950 Challenge Cup final.
One of Tommy's fellow team-mates from the 1950 Challenge Cup Final - Colin Hutton - now at Hull KR, will present Tommy with his award at half time in the Arriva Trains Cup Final on Sunday.
