IS community spirit a thing of the past?
It would appear that in Euxton it is dead and beyond resurrection.
At the beginning of 2003 Euxton Parish Council set up Euxton Community Group in order to address this perception, which had been highlighted in the results of a survey carried out at the end of 2002.
Following a grant from the Awards for All scheme, various events were organised.
The activities for children in the school holidays were well received. Events for the 14-18 age group were not well supported, but this is not just an Euxton problem. Interest in other events has been minimal or non-existent.
More committee members were needed, plus people willing to undertake projects or contribute ideas. In order to do this, at the end of 2003 an appeal was put out in the Euxton Web. This excellent quarterly magazine is delivered to almost all of the 4,000-plus households in Euxton. Not a single response was received.
The officers and committee currently number just six individuals and without more input from the community it will be impossible to continue beyond the end of 2004.
Does Euxton still want a community group?
