Brook in command

Brook turned out possibly one of their strongest sides this season, which included captain Steve Denner returning from injury.

Facing an awesome display of power, the Ellesmere team managed to take 22 games from the rampant home team and were sent back to Worsley nursing a 9-0 defeat.

By comparison, Brook's only serious challengers, South College A, toiled to beat bottom team Tyldesley A 7-2, probably because Andrew Riley is still recovering from injury.

Division Two is closely contested with three points separating the top six teams.

An easy 9-0 win over South College B keeps Walmer A in top spot, but they are the only division leaders out of nine who have lost three matches and still stay top.

A competent 9-0 display over mid-table Hawkshaw B keeps Next Generation (Chorley) A four points clear and, in spite of their having a draw against their name, they look good for the Division Three title.

Good wins keep the top two Division Four leaders in their place. Tyldesley B whitewashed their close neighbours Winton . and Ellesmere B returned the favour delivered to their top team by inflicting an 8-1 defeat on Holcombe Brook SC B.

David Lloyd (Bolton) A kept their unbeaten Division Five record intact with

an amazing power display beating second placed Chorley A 8-1. Only two drawn matches averted the whitewash and the result shows the depth and ability of the Lloyd outfit.

Such is the strength of the two teams at the top of Division Five that, even though Chorley A lost the match, they are still five points clear of third placed Walmer B.

Nothing changes in Division Six as, due to a remarkable set of results when every match was drawn, Lostock C just stay clear of Bradshaw B.

A comfortable 6-3 win over Meadow Hill keeps Next Generation (Chorley) B in command of Division Seven and with their undefeated record, this well-balanced team are still the ones to beat.

Ellesmere C this week drew against Holcombe Brook SC D and are top of Division Eight, but a missing match card could change this. With a very strong David Lloyd (Bolton) B immediately behind them, this result may be important when the end of season approaches.

Three teams are level at the top of Division Nine and are only separated by games. Chorley B still lead, but the intense rivalry between the two chasing teams of David Lloyd (Bolton) C and Harwood B will ensure that there are no free lunches for anyone this season.

The Junior League reached the season end this week in the first four divisions in fine style.

Tyldesley A topped Division One having lead from the front and complete their season with a flourish with the best record in junior tennis this year.

In a last gasp effort, Lostock A grabbed the second spot by just beating second placed Markland Hill A 7-5 and pushing them down to third spot.

Leigh CC A and David Lloyd (Bolton) took the top two Division Two places and can look forward to tennis with the leaders next year. Leigh's challenge to win all their matches almost came off the rails however this week when they drew with Ellesmere.

Division Three has gone right to the wire and either of the top two teams could

have been division winners on the last match. In the event, both won and

Markland Hill B are champions with Tyldesley B runners up.

The Division Four top spot was never in doubt as Lostock C completed their season with a 9-3 win over Walmer and Holcombe Brook B managed to redeem their club's difficult junior season with second place.

New junior Division Five team Barrow Bridge have played a blinder and, although this division still has one match to play, they were champions home and dry weeks ago.

Runners-up have still to be decided and David Lloyd (Manchester) B moved up with their win over Holcombe Brook SC C over St Joseph's C.
