THERE is great news - schools are on holiday. This is wonderful for those of us who normally travel to work along Chorley New Road for a 9am start, including those who use public transport.

There is little or no congestion and the difference is incredible.

It would be most thoughtful if parents who normally drive their children to school could sort out a timetable with other parents and take several children, persuade them to go by bus, or, best of all, walk where possible.

I dare to hope, but realise I shall probably be disappointed when the vacation is over and we're back to the crawl-stop-crawl.
