REFERENCE to the Stanley Shield in the caption to a Looking Back picture showing a 1930s football team has brought a response from Mr H. Farnworth of Tamworth, Staffs.
He tells me that he played in the Stanley Shield Final in 1937-38 on Holy Harbour for Castle Hill Secondary School.
He still has the silver medal and he remembers that Nat Lofthouse played in the same final.
Mr Farnworth wonders if anybody else is still alive from that day.
His address is 34 Bancroft, Tamworth, Staffs, B77 2ES.
The photograph which led to Mr Farnworth getting in touch showed a team from the former Folds Road Central School in Bolton in 1934-35, and was supplied by Harold Hulton of Carlton Road.
Mr Hulton asked if anybody had any idea what happened to the magnificent Stanley Shield and the Morris Shield.
Mr Farnworth asks me if this mystery has been solved yet.
Afraid not. I am still waiting for the call.
