A THAI boxing instructor wants to teach women self defence in a bid to stop them being attacked.
Former British champion Geoff Downes said he is worried about the rising number of assaults on women.
His free classes will include simple self-defence techniques and advice about staying safe.
The course will take place at Peel St Paul community hall in Little Hulton.
The 37-year-old is currently registering with police to allow him to hold his fortnightly classes. He said: "We hear so much about women being attacked. I'll give out advice like avoiding alleyways late at night and always walking where it is well-lit.
"It is a shock if you are attacked and a couple of seconds can change everything."
