BOLTON is poised to become the backdrop for a new TV film by local writer and director Joe O'Byrne.
Mr O'Byrne, of Halliwell, gave up a well-paid career in retail management seven years ago to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor, writer and director.
He graduated from Salford University - where he now lectures part-time - with a degree in media and performance and has already hit the big-time with the short film I'm Frank Morgan - which won an award for best new drama at Manchester's Kino Film Festival in 2000.
Now, he plans to film his latest piece, Looking for Lucky, on the Oldhams Estate, Astley Bridge, and around Halliwell. Told in real time, over two hours, it follows a series of different storylines, all linked by someone looking for their missing dog, Lucky.
Mr O'Byrne, aged 45, said: "We are shooting it with local actors, but it is an opportunity for locals to get involved."
Mr O'Byrne, who has had small parts in several popular television programmes is also looking for financial support for the film, which is set at a low to nothing budget from his own pocket.
