ASSOCIATION leaders Elton bowed out of the Lancashire Knockout after coming up against top Merseyside outfit Bootle.

The Liverpool side boasted a number of top class players, including former Lancashire stars, Graham Lloyd and Paddy McKeown.

Bootle batted first but Elton made an early breakthrough, capturing the wickets of McKeown, Dave Snellgrove and Ian Cockbain cheaply.

Former Bolton League player Chris Sainsbury, however, stayed around to hit 28, then Lloyd came in and punished the bowlers with an innings of 57, aided by John Hitchmough (42 not out) and Phil Warren (23 not out).

That gave Bootle a total of 203 but in reply, Elton quickly lost their openers, although Dexter Fitton (41) and Dave Keegan (21) did their best to keep the score moving.

When they were out, however, the innings lost its momentum and, after from a brief flurry of runs from Hamnett and Lomax, Bootle dimissed them for 122 for an 81-run defeat.
