FLY-TIPPERS have made one corner of a Bolton street the latest eyesore to blight the lives of residents.

Dozens of kitchen appliances, old radiators and furniture have been dumped by litter louts on Cross Street, Farnworth.

Residents say the mountain of waste is causing an eyesore and attracting rats.

Cross Street resident Geraldine Raynor said: "It's just getting worse and worse by the day and it looks appalling.

"Eventually someone comes and moves it on but the council should be doing everything they can to catch the people who are putting it there.

"Everyone else has to pay £10 to have their litter taken away so it's unfair that taxpayers have to foot the bill because these people can't be bothered to take it elsewhere or pay to have it done properly."

A council spokesman said fly-tipping in Cross Street was under investigation but land ownership issues needed to be resolved before they took action.

Litter-busters at the town hall, who earlier this year launched a borough-wide Bin It For Bolton campaign in association with the Bolton Evening News, have vowed to hit fly-tippers hard over the coming months.

Covert camera operations will be mounted at notorious grot-spots and used to trap fly-tippers. Anyone caught and convicted of fly-tipping faces a fine of up to £20,000.

The campaign has so far seen piles of rubbish swept off the streets and residents have moved to join the effort by mounting litter picking operations in their neighbourhoods.
