I REFER to Peter Johnston's letter under the heading, "Give Labour councillors a break." (Letters, July 12)
In his penultimate paragraph, Peter states, "To begin with, nobody in the Lib Dem administration has any previous experience of exercising political power". That is quite incorrect.
Throughout the period 1965-71, two of Kearsley's recently re-elected councillors, John and Margaret Rothwell, were part of the Liberal team in control of the then Kearsley Urban District Council.
John was also council leader and Liberal group leader throughout that time.
Both held various committee chairmanships/vice-chairmanships and represented the town as chairman of the council.
In my book, that adds up to a considerable measure of experience at "exercising political power" and their recent combined vote of over 3,500 suggests to me that many other Kearsleyites think so too.
