PAUL Gascoigne has confirmed that he is about to become a Radcliffe Borough player for a day.

The former England international has told Borough manager Kevin Glendon that he will play against Manchester United at Stainton Park this Saturday.

Gascoigne, aged 37, has played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley during a colourful career.

He will fly in from Frankfurt especially for the game, staying at his former England team-mate Bryan Robson's Cheshire home. Robson will also turn out for Borough against his old club in a match which is expected to attract a record crowd to Stainton Park.

Glendon said: "The chairman has spoken to Bryan, and there are no problems with him playing on Saturday, while I spoke to Paul and confirmed the flights we are booking for him.

"Saturday's game should be a superb occasion.

"It's not every day a manager at my level gets to coach a former England captain and a footballing genius, and I know all the lads are looking forward to playing alongside them.

"Gazza is known for his unpredictability as well as his skill, and I'm sure the crowd will not be disappointed."

Glendon is also hoping to have two new players on show on Saturday.

Striker Rory Patterson has a two-year deal after being released by Rochdale. Centre-back Simon Grand, also released by Dale, has impressed and is looking to earn a contract with Borough.
