A DECISION by the Government to axe the expansion of the Metrolink in Greater Manchester has sparked fury.
The planned routes to Oldham, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Airport were withdrawn yesterday despite £200 million being spent on expansion projects.
Transport Secretary Alistair Darling said the plans were too expensive, but regional politicians and transport bosses have pledged to lobby the Government to get the schemes back on track.
