A TODDLER could be the latest victim of a fake washing powder scare after her skin erupted in blisters.
Little Jade Nicholas' body began to develop a severe skin condition within just 15 minutes on Monday afternoon.
Doctors told her distraught mother Liz she had suffered an allergic reaction after burn-like blisters were discovered on her arms and legs.
White blister marks nearly closed 19-month-old Jade's throat and Liz was petrified that she might stop breathing.
The Horwich mum was told by doctors yesterday that the severe reaction could have been caused by the counterfeit washing detergent, carrying the name Bold, that she has just started using.
Trading Standards issued a warning to parents to throw away this brand of powder, in both 'Aqua' and 'Hawaii Fresh' 1kg packages as they could be harmful to children.
It follows a string of complaints from people suffering rashes and irritation.
People who come across the harmful powder are advised to use gloves and masks.
The suspect powder was being sold in two shops in Farnworth, but Mrs Nicholas bought her detergent in a store in Horwich.
She said: "We have been to the doctors and they said that the reaction was almost certainly caused by the powder.
"It's frightening that this has been in the shops and available for anybody to buy.
"This has been a distressing time for Jade and for me. She won't let anybody touch her.
"Her skin literally erupted within 15 minutes. It was like she'd been running through nettles. She was hot to touch and I stayed up all the night checking to see if she was all right." Jade cannot be prescribed anti-histimine tablets as she has a heart condition that prevents her from taking them.
A spokesman for Trading Standards said: "We advise anybody who feels they have bought suspect washing powder to check the boxes carefully, keep hold of the packaging and telephone us."
