Vitoria Setubal 2 Wanderers 0: KEVIN Poole showed the form that has kept him in the professional ranks for more than two decades as Wanderers slipped to a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Vitoria Setubal in Portugal last night.

Wanderers looked jaded as they played their second game in 24 hours, and it was left to the goalkeeper to keep the score down to respectable proportions.

Poole, who celebrated his 41st birthday on Tuesday, produced superb second half saves - one from a penalty - to keep the Portuguese side at bay, but he was helpless as strikers Meyong and Pedro Oliveira scored a goal each, either side of half-time.

Wanderers: Poole, Shakes, Barness, Cesar, Rool, Emerson, Nolan, Okocha, Gardner, McDonald, Bridges.

Subs: Haim (for Cesar), Kachloul (for Emerson) both haalf-time, Davies (for McDonald), Hunt (for Bridges) and Pedersen (for Nolan) all 60 minutes.

Wanderers will continue their pre-season preparations tomorrow when they go to Valley Parade to take on Bradford City in a testimonial game for long-serving Bantams defender Wayne Jacobs.

Allardyce will take a mixture of first teamers and reserves for the fixture and it is thought that new signing Gary Speed will make his debut for Whites following his £750,000 transfer from Newcastle.
