THE unsolved murder of a 21-year-old prostitute in Bolton will feature on BBC's Crimewatch UK next week.
It is more than two years since Danielle Moorcroft's battered and partially clothed body was found behind bushes at the back of Bolton Community College, off Lower Bridgeman Street.
A post mortem examination revealed that she died from head injuries following the attack on June 1 2002. Heroin addict Danielle was five months pregnant with a boy.
Her mother Mary Lodge will make an emotional plea for information to help catch her daughter's killer on the programme to be screened on Thursday July 29.
It is the first time she has spoken publicly about her grief and her relationship with her daughter.
Despite several appeals in the past, Danielle's murderer is still at large.
Detectives believe he left an asthma inhaler at the scene. So far, DNA samples have been taken from more than 1,200 users of a Salbutamol 100mg CF inhaler in Bolton.
A man wearing a hooded top and carrying a rucksack-type bag was seen running away from the scene. He may also have drunk from a bottle of Fosters lager shortly before the murder.
Det Insp Peter Jackson of Bolton CID said the hunt was now moving wider afield after exhausting all local inquiries.
He said: "For the past two years, we have concentrated our inquiries in and around Bolton, but now we are broadening our search.
"We always believed the offender either was from the area or knew the area well.
"As we have not yet found who we are looking for, we have decided to make a national appeal.
"He could have travelled into Bolton and then left. We have a DNA sample and believe he left behind an asthma inhaler.
"We hope the Crimewatch programme will lead to new lines of inquiry."
Anyone who can help is asked to contact the police incident room at Castle Street on 0161 856 5961 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
