Walkden are starting to look like champions again. They have chased Bolton League leaders Westhoughton for most of the season, but are now within two points of taking over at the top.

It has been hard graft for Mike Bennison's side, yet they have a great chance of building on that when they go to bottom side Little Lever tomorrow.

They should come away from Victory Road with winning points yet Little Lever are currently in high spirits after they achieved their first victory of the season last week at the expense of Astley Bridge.

But their hope of producing a back-to-back success looks somewhat remote, as they seen threatened by a Walkden side that is commited to retaining their title.

Even so, it is hard to envisage Little Lever captain Jon Kerrigan giving up without a fight, and he will be looking for a repeat of last week's form when he took five wickets, before producing a middle order innings of 22.

Leaders Westhoughton face old rivals Horwich, who suffered at the hands of Walkden last week. That will make them more determined than ever not to fail again, which means Westhoughton will have to be on top of their game to make sure of maximum points.

Third-placed Greenmount are still in with a shout but after drawing with Westhoughton last week, badly need a win at home to Kearsley to maintain their interest in the championships proceedings.

An interesting game looks in prospect at Tonge, where Egerton provide the opposition. They bring ex-Castle Hill players Ian Taylor and Rick Northrop back to face their former club, while Tonge's Nigel Partington comes up against the side he decided to leave only a few weeks ago.
