THE Bolton Cricket League Umpires Association has been given £1,500 by Sportsmatch, the government funded sports aid organisation to match a similar sum given to them by their sponsors Cricketworld of Belmont Road, Bolton.

The funds are to provide support for the training of umpires and scorers within the Bolton Cricket League over the next three years.

An umpires training course run by the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers (ACU&S) starts on Tuesday, September 14, at Astley Bridge Cricket Club and the men and women completing the course, and choosing to join the Bolton League Umpires' Association for the 2005 season, will have all their training costs, including provision of law books and examination fees, paid from the new funding.

The ACU&S will also be using their new computerised technology based on laptop computers using CD-ROMs. The stunning graphic presentations give a real life feel to the explanation of the Laws of Cricket.

For details of how to join the BCLUA or training courses, contact either Ted Holden 01204 520594 or Paul Dalton 0161 725 9525, or go along to the BCLUA monthly meeting on the third Monday each month at Heaton CC, Church Road, Bolton at 7.30pm.
