AN investigation has been launched after an elderly man collapsed and died on a pavement in River Street, Bolton.
Ambulance crews were called to the scene at 9.30pm last night but attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.
He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The man, who is believed to be in his 70s, has not yet been indentified.
Ambulance crews notified the police about the incident and they are now investigating.
A spokesman said: "We are investigating the death of an elderly man in River Street. It is being treated as suspicious at this moment."
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out over the weekend.
