VISITORS to one of Bolton's most historic buildings stepped back in time to the Tudor age at the weekend to see an apty-named Shakespeare play.
The Tempest was staged on the front lawn at Turton Tower in Bromley Cross on Saturday night - in the rain.
The Grade II listed building, which dates back to 1420, proved to be the perfect if wet backdrop for the Bard's classic play.
It was performed by Ilyria, a touring theatre company based in Warwickshire.
The actors wore Tudor costumes as they told the classic tale of spirits, sorcery, monsters, maidens and shipwrecked, scheming noblemen.
Around 150 people, wrapped in warm clothes and blankets and holding umbrellas, braved the wet weather to watch the magical outdoor performance.
Judith Scalan, from Turton Tower, said: "Unfortunately it rained but everyone had a great time. The show was very well received."
Off the Ground are performing Treasure Island on August 7. Tickets are available from Turton Tower or the tourist information offices in Bolton, Bury and Blackburn.
