ENWORKS, the Bury-based environmental business support service, has been awarded a £100,000 grant to improve the health and safety of the region's workforce.
The not-for-profit organisation beat 70 bids to become one of a dozen national Workers' Safety Advisers (WSAs) - a government initiative to increase workers' involvement and consultation in occupational health and safety.
The Department for work and Pensions has provided funding of three million pounds for the WSA Challenge Fund. The focus of the Fund is for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) lacking arrangements for involving the workforce in the management of health and safety.
