CATS Protection is urging cat owners in Bolton to have their pet microchipped ahead of their national campaign to promote its benefits.
Every year the charity helps around 4,000 felines find their way home after they have been chipped.
A small microchip is placed under the cats skin, which contains details of the cats owner and it home address, which can be checked on the national PetLog register.
For information on microchipping at Cats Protection centres call 08702 099 099.
