A 26-YEAR-OLD man was saved by his smoke detector after a blaze ripped through the first floor of his house.
The man was sleeping in his three storey town house in Manchester Road, Walkden, when a fire started in the first floor living room, at 8.30pm.
The smoke detector alerted the man to the fire and he was able to escape from the house without injury. The first floor of the house was destroyed.
Leading Firefighter Paul Rushby at Farnworth Fire Station said: "The smoke detector saved the man's life."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
