THE annual Texas Scramble always proves popular with the members at Turton and often there are several unfancied groups on the leaderboard but this year was an exception, apart from possibly the runners-up.
Most of the favourites did themselves justice on a course which was set up perfectly for the event with very tough pin positions and almost without exception every team suffered a bogey somewhere in their round.
The breeze added to the difficulty with only the three leading groups breaking 60. One long-standing member remarked that he had never known so few birdies recorded in this type of competition. One group (Holt/Wilbur/Williams/Williams) had the rare distinction of recording eagles at both par fives but only managed one birdie on the rest of the course.
