IT'S showdown time in the Bolton League on Saturday when leaders Walkden take on second placed Westhoughton in what could turn out to be a title decider.

The two sides both won over the weekend, Westhoughton getting back on track with a win over Kearsley after they had lost pole position last week with defeat at Egerton, while Walkden were comfortable winners over Farnworth Social Circle.

The bowlers laid the foundations for Walkden's win by restricting Circle to 128, Bernard Reidy and John Smith taking three wickets each and John Smith two. Pro Peter Roach then eased the leaders to a seven wicket win with an unbeaten 58.

Westhoughton were five wicket winners after overhauling Kearsley's 160 total. Alan Gaskell hit an unbeaten century as he and Rick Parker (37) put on 80 for the fifth wicket.

Meanwhile, at the bottom, Little Lever are enjoying something of a purple patch, picking up their third win in four games after accounting for Eagley by two wickets.

Chasing the visitors' 167, of which John Conlon contributed 44, Little Lever were helped on their way by Jon Kerrigan (39) and pro Asraf (38).

Top scorers of the day were Farnworth, who piled up 253-5 against Tonge. Falgun Patel turned out to be the wounded hero for Farnworth hitting his maiden Bolton League century then having to retire next ball after being hit in the face by a delivery that reared up off a length. Fortunately he recovered to be able to field, and help his side to a 107-run win after Tonge were dismissed for 146.

Pro Nishit Shetty had a good day as Greenmount beat Bradshaw by eight wickets.

First he took 5-51 to limit Bradshaw to 172-7, after the Bradshaw batsmen were able to make only one scoring shot off his first nine overs. Then he hit an unbeaten 80 in the 174-2 reply, with Gary Chadwick helping with 45, while former Bradshaw captain David Morris added 28 in a second wicket partnership of 81 with Shetty. Gary Garner and Rick Northrop enjoyed a 98 second wicket stand for Egerton, which set up a 19-run win over visiting Astley Bridge.

Garner hit 69 and Northrop 53 in a total of 202-5, before Bridge were dismissed with five balls remaining after Delugoda's 89 had threatened to deny the home side their win.

Heaton's Jack Southworth hit 28 off one over, but that was all Heaton had to shout about as they went down to a five-wicket defeat by Horwich.

Heaton were well short of runs and could only total 123, with David White and Andy Taylor each taking five wickets. White the hit 32 not out and Jon Partington added 30 in Horwich's reply of 125-5.
