Bury 3 Yeovil Town 1 by Phil Thorp: THIS opening day display is bound to foster cautious optimism in the Shakers' ranks.
Although only a fool would make rash predictions after just 90 minutes action, anyone who witnessed Saturday's victory could not help but be encouraged by the attitude showed by the Shakers.
Undeservedly a goal behind at the interval they came out in the second period and grabbed three quality goals to turn the game on its head. All this against a Yeovil team widely regarded as being among the favourites for promotion.
Two came from teenager Dave Nugent, who underlined what a hot prospect he is with a couple of precision headers, while the third came from substitute Graeme Jones.
The former Wigan striker -- 15 years Nugent's senior -- was far from happy to find himself on the bench after starting all the pre-season games. But he responded the best way possible with a superbly taken result clincher -- the 100th of his nomadic career. Yet it all looked to be going wrong as Yeovil snatched the lead after 38 minutes when lively Argentinian-Aussie Adrian Caceres lashed a left-foot effort past Glyn Garner.
Bury boss Graham Barrow resisted the temptation to change personnel at the interval, but after 11 minutes of the second period, he replaced an out-of-sorts Jon Newby with Jones and brought on Simon Whaley for Flitcroft.
Eight minutes after the change Bury were level as Nugent directed a Kennedy free-kick into the net.
And then the Shakers took the lead after 78 minutes when Nugent headed a second from a Mattis cross, before the evergreen Jones put the game beyond doubt with a third.
