HUNDREDS of people lined Adlington's sun-drenched streets for this year's carnival.
Saturday's parade was the highlight of the annual event, and was blessed with blue skies.
Crowds lined the streets as bands and floats wound along the procession route from Park Road to Church Street and on to the playing fields, where the crowning of this year's carnival royalty took place.
Among the procession were Bootle and District Concertina Band, RJ's Majorettes from Bolton, and Stanforth Drum Majorettes from Rossendale.
The array of colourful floats displayed themes that included Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins and the Addams Family.
Blackrod's carnival royalty also appeared in the parade.
Yesterday the playing fields came alive with a motorbike show, paintball, stalls and funfair, as well as the return of the 33ft-high inflatable Titanic adventure slide.
This year's celebrity guest was Andy Whyment, who plays dopey Kirk Sutherland in Coronation Street.
He took the stage on the playing fields to open the event and field questions about his role in the soap.
He said: "I'm pleased that the sun is out and that loads of people have come along to see it all. The parade was great and everyone was smiling.
"It's an honour to be invited along to perform the official duties."
Rebecca Holt, of Chorley, who was enjoying the sunshine with her three-year-old son, Kyle, said: "It's been a brilliant day and the parade was fantastic.
"We came mainly because the weather was nice, but it's been a great day out."
After the parade, there was cabaret on Saturday night with entertainment from Tamla Motion, Trinity, Dance Odyssey and Janice Yorke.
