REGULARS of the Nab Gate pub (and now Italian restaurant), Harwood, will no doubt have forgotten the Old Nab Gate pub - pictured here - which was pulled down in 1958-59 to make way for the new pub.
It is believed there has been an inn on the site for more than 400 years. "Nab Gate" is thought to have got its name from the fact that at the point where the old turnpike road reached the top of the nab (hill), there was a toll gate - hence Nab Gate.
Today the pub still commands the elevated position at the top of Hardy Mill Road at its junction with Stitch-me-Lane and Arthur Lane
