HERE'S a mystery picture. I don't even know if it was taken in Bolton, but certainly Wm. Tonge & Sons, Ltd (Noted Ales, Wines and Spirits), advertised on the side of the building was a Bolton brewery off Deane Road.
It was taken over by Walker Cain, Ltd., of Warrington in 1923, with 21 public houses, but continued as Wm. Tong & Sons, Ltd., for many years afterwards, with the head office in Mealhouse Lane.
You will see at the top of the gable end advertisement the name Antelope Hotel, and the street name on the same side says "Peel Lane".
You will also notice a notice saying "Poor Dicks", but what that means I have no clue; I cannot find either an Antelope Hotel or Peel Lane in various directories, but perhaps one of you will be able to enlighten the rest of us where the photograph was taken.
