DEVELOPERS behind a multi-million pound revamp of Farnworth precinct say they are close to reaching an agreement with builders.
The developers, Halladale, of Glasgow, have refused to confirm that a big high street name is set to move into the new precinct.
But a spokesman admitted that aim was to secure a mix of national and regional operators.
Two large retail shops, situated on either side of the precinct's entrance on Brackley Street, will form the centrepiece of the development.
The scheme, which will cost between
The £5 million and £10 million pound plan includes demolition of exisiting retail kiosks and their replacement by new ones.
It is understood building work could start before the end of the year.
A spokesman for Halladale said: "Things are looking very positive at the moment. We are fully committed to this development and have worked through some previous problems."
Councillors in Farnworth are keen for the refurbishment to give a much-needed boost to the town's declining market area.
Halladale bought the precinct's 23 stalls and its 12 adjoining shops last September in a deal worth £4.2 million.
