IT'S always good fun to see the "heavy gang" heaving and sweating during a tug-of-war.
These three pictures show what I mean.
Railmen and firemen in Horwich (top) had a challenge tug-of-war between members of the town's British Railways Staff Association Club committee and local firemen who were also members of the club.
And although the firemen had been beaten in darts, dominoes, and snooker matches, they came out tops in the tug-of-war by three pulls to two. A collection raised about £8 for the Fire Service Widows and Orphans' Fund.
The other pictures show customers from the Rock House pub in Deane came face-to-face with regulars from the Alma Inn in Bradshawgate in the Precinct in March, 1970 . . . and the Alma team came out winners.
