WANDERERS fans queued in their hundreds to congratulate the team's own Euro 2004 soccer champion Stelios Giannakopoulos.
Supporters were at the Reebok Stadium's club shop on Tuesday night to meet Stelios -- who was in the winning Greece side at the final in Lisbon -- at an autograph-signing session.
The midfielder happily signed shirts, programmes and posters. A number of fans wore Greece T-shirts with Stelios' name on them.
Bolton student Claire Leather, aged 17, who was with friend Amanda Urmston, said: "We queued for about 40 minutes to meet him and get his autograph. We were cheering him on during the Euro 2004 championships."
Stelios said the number of fans who had turned up to greet him was "very unexpected".
He said: "I feel very at home here and I want to thank all the fans very, very much. I feel very grateful to be in the European Championship side and to accept so much love from the fans."
Greece were rank outsiders at the start of the tournament, but defeated France and Croatia before winning 1-0 against hosts Portugal in the final.
Stelios missed a couple of games due to injury but played in the final when Angelos Charisteas headed the winning goal.
