STEEPLEJACK Fred Dibnah stepped in front of the cameras on Tuesday to film for his latest television series.

The steam engine fanatic was at Thomas Smith's Victoria nut and bolt works in Atherton.

The Garton factory is one of a number of locations Fred will visit to illustrate innovations and also engineering history in his BBC 2 series Made in Britain.

The place holds a special place in Fred's heart as he bought one of his first steam engines from there and he is still a regular visitor.

Fred, who is ill with cancer, is currently filming 12 programmes as he tours Britain on his newly restored Aveiling & Porter 1912 Steam Tractor.

His programmes will be shown later in the year and show how companies across the nation contributed to the major engineering developments of the past.
