EX-SERVICEMEN in Bolton will pay tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the Far East during the Second World War when they commemorate the 59th anniversary of Victory in Japan Day on Sunday.
Standard bearers representing veterans from Bolton branches of various associations will assemble at the war memorial in Victoria Square, Bolton, at 10.55am for the VJ Day commemoration service.
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Prentice Howarth, will be present on the town hall steps as the the first maroon is fired at 11am.
Cllr Howarth will lay wreaths at the war memorial as the Last Post is sounded by a lone bugler.
There will be a two-minute silence to remember those who suffered in the Far East before the war ended on August 15, 1945.
Another maroon will be fired after the two-minute silence, followed by a service of remembrance, before the parade is dismissed at 11.15am.
