A WOMAN who was involved in a serious early morning car crash in Bolton has died from her injuries.

Kathleen Robinson, aged 51, of St Peter's Terrace, Farnworth, lost her fight for life six hours after the crash in Wigan Road, Deane.

Police mounted a hunt for the driver of a black car which sped away from the scene at 5.30am yesterday.

Mrs Robinson was a front seat passenger in a Ford Fiesta which was forced to swerve to avoid the black car, which police say was being driven on the wrong side of Wigan Road.

The Fiesta then crashed into a stationary vehicle, trapping Mrs Robinson inside. She was believed to have been coming home from work.

The black car, which was believed to be a Nissan with part of its registration reading "J2", sped off along Wigan Road away from Bolton.

Mrs Robinson was freed by paramedics and taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital with serious chest injuries. The driver of the Fiesta and a second passenger were not injured.

Wigan Road was closed at its junction with Hulton Lane and Deane Church Lane following the incident until yesterday afternoon. Two 21-year-old men from the Bolton area were arrested last night on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a car was recovered. They were due to be questioned by police later today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should contact the Road Policing Unit at Bolton on 0161 856 7274, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
