MANCHESTER Prison will be one of the first in the UK to scan visitors' and inmates' fingerprints in an effort to tighten prison security.
The prison is one of five to be equipped with a biometric security system.
The Inmate Management System saves records of prisoners' and visitors' fingerprints and photos on computers. The system has been piloted in several privately owned detention centres and prisons.
The other prisons throughout the UK also selected to pioneer the system are Belmarsh, Long Lartin, Whitemoor and Woodhill.
