BOLTON'S new night-time manager is calling on licensees to come together to make drinkers in the town the best behaved in the country.
Laura Miseo will be working with landlords across the town centre to promote Bolton and tackle alcohol-related disorder.
She will take up her new role on Monday, August 23, and will be based at the Bolton Town Centre Company offices in the Market Place.
Miss Miseo was appointed by the Bolton Townsafe Partnership Group which is made up of various agencies including Bolton Council, Bolton Town Centre Company and the police.
They are working together to reduce anti-social behaviour and fear of crime, as well as improving the image of the town.
The first job for Miss Miseo, who is currently assistant manager at the Pack Horse Hotel, will be to sign up as many licensees as possible to the Bolton Town Safe Partnership scheme.
As paying members, they will benefit from a number of initiatives including a radio link, security awareness training and confidential advice.
Two evening ambassadors will also be appointed shortly to patrol the town centre.
Miss Miseo is fully aware of the challenge in front of her and believes she is up to the task.
"Hopefully, I will be able to get as many licensees as I can to sign up and at the same time, try and resolve any issues they may have," she said. "It won't be 'them and us'. We will all be working together towards the same goal.
"Licensees don't have to join the scheme but it will be to their benefit if they do. The more people who join, the more initiatives we will be able to fund."
Miss Miseo said the Townsafe Partnership wanted to promote Bolton town centre to people of all ages, not just young people. It is not just about the bars but also the restaurants," she said. "If people enjoy Bolton at night, they will come back during the day and everyone benefits."
Chief Insp Pat McKelvey, of Bolton Police, said: "The days have gone of bringing people into your bar, serving them drinks and then sending them on their way at the end of the night.
"It is about moral and social responsibility and licensees working together to make Bolton a safe and enjoyable place to visit."
Cathy Savage, Bolton Town Centre Manager, said: "We have a very successful daytime initiative in place. We want to extend that into the night-time economy."
Businesses wanting to join the Partnership should call or Laura or Cathy on 01204 523762.
