A 20-YEAR-OLD pedestrian is fighting for his life in a hospital's intensive care unit on Monday after a road accident in Bolton.
The man was struck by a van as he was crossing Tonge Moor Road, near the junction of Firwood Grove, Tonge Moor.
The pedestrian, who has not been named, suffered a serious fracture to his skull in the accident with the Citroen Dispatch van at 9pm on Saturday.
He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and today a police spokesman said the man's condition was "critical".
The van driver, a 42-year-old local man, was shocked but not injured.
In a separate accident yesterday, a motorcyclist suffered a broken leg after he was struck by a car and a motorbike in Edgworth.
Michael Ainscough, aged 22, of Bolton, was riding along Knotts Lane yesterday shortly before 4pm when he lost control on a bend and was in collision with a Mercedes.
As he lay in the road, he was then struck by a second motorbike.
Mr Ainscough was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital by the North West Air Ambulance. His condition was said to be serious, but not life-threatening.
The car driver, Louise Finn, aged 32, of Darwen, and the other motorcyclist, Kevin Tyson, aged 42, of Ramsbottom, were not injured. The road was closed for three hours while accident investigators examined the scene.
A 19-year-old man was knocked down by a car in Leigh on Saturday night. He was hit by a blue Ford Mondeo as he crossed Spinning Jenny Way at around 10.30pm.
The car had been driven along Twist Lane, across the junction with King Street and into Spinning Jenny Way when the accident happened.
The teenager suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment. He has since been transferred to the intensive care unit at Wigan Royal Infirmary where his condition is said to be improving.
