Eddie Paynter, who died in 1979, was photographed at Tonge Cricket Club in 1976 showing off the batting which brought him success with Lancashire and England.

Oswaldtwistle-born Eddie played with Tonge during the 1940s. He and Westhoughton-born Dick Pollard, who regularly took 100 wickets a season for Lancashire, were among past players celebrating the club's centenary. Watching Eddie are, from left, Fred Hartley, Dick Pollard, Jeff Todd (club captain), Keith Eccleshare (club professional), Frank Baldwin (secretary) and Jim Brierley.
