A MAJOR fund-raising day for Bolton's Mountain Rescue Team had to be cancelled when they were called to help search for a missing boy.
The team spent two days as part of a massive operation to find 15-year-old Adam Charlotte who had disappeared in the River Bollin at Dunham Massey on Thursday afternoon. His body was later found by a police underwater search team on Sunday morning.
On Friday, 34 people from the Bolton team helped search the banks of Dunham Massey, Deer Park and the Manchester Ship Canal from 10am until 11pm.
On Saturday 27 people were out from 8am until 9pm, when the search was called off. Four members of the White Kayak Search Unit turned out along with the team's search dog Chi. They were joined by many police teams and Eccles fire crews.
Garry Rhodes, from Bolton Mountain Rescue, said: "It was unfortunate that we had to cancel the fund-raising day because we hoped to raise around £1,000. We apologise to those who came to see us and our equipment but we are a search and rescue organisation and had to do our job."
