TWO bakery workers have been charged and remanded in custody following the death of their workmate.
Dashty Jaff, of Marlbrook Walk, Great Lever and Kashif Ahmed, of Mancroft Avenue, Daubhill, both aged 21, were both charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a licence and without insurance.
Ahmed was additionally charged with failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident. The charges follow the death of Farnworth grandmother Kathleen Robinson, aged 51, who was a passenger in Jaff's Nissan Micra when it crashed into a parked car on Wigan Road, Deane, at 5.30am on Thursday.
Ahmed was allegedly driving a Nissan Sunny on the road at the same time.
Mrs Robinson's family were in court when Jaff, dressed in a pink shirt, and Ahmed, wearing a black hooded jumper, appeared in the dock at Bolton Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Jaff, who followed proceedings through an interpreter, expressed his condolences to Mrs Robinson's family though his solicitor.
Magistrates remanded Jaff and Ahmed in custody until August 19 when they will appear at Bolton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.
The two men and Mrs Robinson worked for Greenhalgh's Bakery in Lostock.
